Qs2 is a warm, spicy and concentrated red wine from the house Quinta Sardonia in Sardón de Duero, northern Spain. The vineyards are located close to the Duero river in a picturesque hilly south-facing area at 700-800 meters altitude. This deep purple wine has a bouquet of forest fruits, violet and cloves, while the palate is rich in black cherries, bramble and prune, with hints of vanilla and chocolate from the 15 months of maturation in small French oak barrels. It is a balanced wine with a pleasant acidity and soft tannins, accompanied by a round, mature expression from the many years of ageing in the bottle. Enjoy it with red meat, stews, grilled vegetables and savoury sauces.
Qs2 is created strictly with biodynamic methods. Biodynamic agriculture is a form of alternative agriculture very similar to organic farming, but it includes various esoteric concepts drawn from the ideas of Rudolf Steiner (1861–1925). The goal is to grow healthy vines with the best quality of fruit as possible as well as supporting nature and biodiversity. The wine makers at Quinta Sardonia have a low-intervention approach to wine making, resulting in characteristic, authentic wines that are unfiltered, extremely low in sulfites and without additives. With the WWF certification on the bottle, it is clear that Quinta Sardonia is a wine estate that truly cares about nature and wildlife.
Quinta Sardónia was founded by a group of visionary wine enthusiasts in Sardón de Duero and Villabáñez in norther Spain back in 1998. The area is located next door to the renowned wine region Ribera del Duero and was long an overlooked gem in terms of making top quality red wines. In the forefront of the group were the Danish wine maker Peter Sisseck and the French wine maker Jérôme Bougnaud, who also worked closely together in creating the world-famous Spanish wine called Pingus. The first wine from Quinta Sardonia called QS, which one can say is the big brother to Qs2, took the international wine scene by storm from the very first vintage. Today Jérôme Bougnaud is the head wine maker of Quinta Sardónia, while Peter Sisseck concentrates on his projects Pingus and PSI in Spain as well as Chateau Rocheyron in Bordeaux.
